Christian
Businesspeople Growing Together in Honduras
In the summer of 2005 a
new Partners Worldwide Business Partnership
was organized between businessmen in Honduras
and Pella, Iowa. The Pella affiliate
had the privilege to send two of its members
to Honduras to "get acquainted" and
develop a relationship.
We arrived in Tegucigalpa
the 24th of August. We traveled to
the city of Catacamas in the province of
Olancho. There we met with many of
the area business owners who were applying
for loans. We were very impressed with
the level of organization and the insight
of the leadership in organizing their small "Credit
Union" within the Diaconal National
of the Christian Reformed Church. Many
of the business owners we met had been
in the micro loan program and now had
grown to the point that they were asking
to participate in the next level of needing
larger loans to expand their businesses.
As we continued with our trip, we also met
with several business owners in the Nueva
Suyapa suburb of Tegucigalpa. This
is the poorest part of the capital city and
many of these people are just trying to put
food on their tables for their families. Most
of these businesses are very small and just
getting started. They have the desire
to provide and want to have a business, but
just don't know how to go about it. While
there we met with approximately 10 current
successful larger business owners that we
want to partner with. We are looking
forward to this larger Honduras business
group to be our international affiliate counterpart
in Honduras. These people would be
our link and help us mentor these small business
owners. Our desire is that these
small business owners have local partners
available to assist and mentor them as well.
We will walk beside these
international affiliate leaders to encourage,
mentor, and to provide important resources.
We need to help these Honduras business people
to become successful and provide for their
families. We want to help train these
people to become the future trainers of the
area. Praise God that we have the privilege
to participate in this ministry. If
you would like to help us build our business
ministry program in Honduras, either through
your financial gifts or to join us as we
work shoulder to shoulder with the upcoming
Honduras businesses.
Ken Van Zee
The Pella business affiliate
needs help in sponsoring these businesses.
Please consider sponsoring one of these businesses
by writing a check to make a loan available
to one of them. As this entrepreneur repays
the loan over the coming year, it will go
into a revolving fund that will make money
available to similar small businesses. Please
indicate if you would be willing to be an
online mentor to one of these businesses
or would like to visit Honduras in person
in January or February of 2006.
