Volunteer as a Business Affiliate
A Business Affiliate (BA) is a small team of businesspeople who volunteer their skills, experience, and resources to help end poverty through business growth and job creation.
BAs are an essential part of Partners Worldwide’s three-way model. BAs are involved with a local organization, or Local Community Institution (LCI) somewhere around the world. Their role is to encourage, equip and strengthen their LCI partnership through the Partners Worldwide (PW) cornerstones of Training, Mentoring, Advocacy, and Access to Capital. Secondly, the BA works with PW staff as they provide support to the partnership.
A Variety of BAs
Below are some of our current BA team members. You’ll see a range of age, experience and involvement. We desire and recruit a wide range of businesspeople, so if you would like to explore joining a BA team, fill out our connect form or give us a call at 1-800-919-7307 and we will explore where and how you may be able to serve in our global network.
What does a BA do?
A BA works with the leadership of the local partner (LCI) and walk with them as they grow and expand the influence of their work. Initially, BAs listen and learn. Then they offer ideas, advice, and encouragement, while building trust and friendship. A BA team is a volunteer business coach, an active listener, a sounding board, and even a consultant.
Who does a BA work with?
As a BA, you’ll be part of a team of volunteers who work with both the leadership of one of Partners Worldwide’s 80+ established partnerships, as well as individual business owners around the world. We call these local organizations Local Community Institutions. These LCIs serve hundreds, sometimes thousands, of local small businesses through Training, Mentoring, Advocacy, and Access to Capital. You’ll also work with Partners Worldwide staff who are there to help facilitate, support, and grow the partnership.
What are the qualifications for being a BA?
A BA should care deeply about using business to end poverty and have the desire to engage their brain AND their heart in doing so. You have the ability to figure things out. You’re curious. You’ve run a small business or have business knowledge and experience. You’re a recent graduate looking to use your education and knowledge to help others. You’re an expert in your field. Your skills and heart to serve are extremely valuable!
How long is a BA commitment?
It takes time for a partnership to develop trust, spur job creation, and create a flourishing community. Many of our partnerships have been in place for 10 years or more because of the deep and meaningful relationships that have been formed.
