Ivory Coast - ACLCP

Danané

Founded in 2007, Association of Christian Fighting Against Poverty/Association Chrétienne de Lutte Contre La Pauvreté (ACLCP) is a community-based business initiative for the war affected population. By focusing on subsistance farmers and small and medium businesses, ACLCP facilitates social and economic integration by offering access to capital, business training and stimulation, and capacity building. Working with approximately 100 members in the rural setting of Danané, western Côte d’Ivoire, ACLCP became a member with Partners Worldwide in 2009. For more information, visit dealieu.blogspot.com.

In a small town of Danané, Côte d’Ivoire, entrepreneur and farmer Ives Gonson owns a hog farm and employs two local men.  “I started the business in 2008 with two female hogs and one male,” says Gonson with a smile.  Today he has over fifty.

Volunteer Opportunities

ACLCP is working with the Rural Empowerment Initiative (REI) and their Harvest Shares Initiative (HSI). Farmers, church members, and community members make up the bulk of a HSI, but the membership spans urban, rural, farmer and non-farmer. The HSI raises a crop, such as soy beans or corn, but many also raise livestock and garden produce.  The HSI then donates the income from their crop to international programs that increase food security, agricultural training, and access to capitol. Download a PDF brochure to learn more the Harvest Shares Initiative, or click here for more information about volunteer opportunities.

To rebuild the demonstration farm in post-civil war, ACLCP currently searches for financial support (this includes a poultry business, grass cutters, feed mill, snails, bees, and crop production with appropriate technology to train small scale farmers).  French translators also needed to interpret between Ivoirians and North American partnerships.
