Malawi - Farmer to Farmer

Dedza

Farmer-to-Farmer is a network of over 200 subsistence farmers in Dedza, a town east of Lake Malawi, which grows staple crops of maize and cassava.  To create small scale commercial farming and improve food security, local leaders train in conservation farming techniques and management.  In cooperation with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, farming families have access to foot-treadle irrigation pumps and opportunities for goat production.  Since 2003, North American farmers have come alongside to mentor, encourage, and finance the partnership.
