Faithful Farming for An Abundant Ministry

Like many pastors in Sri Lanka, Christopher needed a way to support his ministry. He decided to turn to farming, and asked God for help. His prayers were answered in the form of a plot of land—land that wasn’t exactly what he expected.

The land was overgrown with weeds and covered with rubbish. Pastor Christopher was discouraged until he remembered Matthew 17:20-21, which says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Remembering these words gave Christopher the hope he needed to see his land’s potential. Strengthened, he toiled diligently at the land, clearing away the weeds and garbage to reveal fertile soil. It was backbreaking work, but Christopher persisted until it was finished.

But now, he faced another obstacle: he lacked the finances to further invest in his farm. Without the help of a partner, Christopher’s farm—and entire ministry—was in jeopardy.

Planting Seeds

Through a fellow minister, Christopher became connected with the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL).

First, NCEASL worked with Christopher to put up a fence around his plot of land. Next, he received a loan for potato seeds. After three months of faithful cultivation, Christopher sold his harvest for a great profit, through which he was able to send his sons to school.

The Heart and Soul of the Community

The impact of Christopher’s work goes further than his immediate family. He can now sustain his ministry as a pastor.

As a believer that the church is the heart and soul of the community, Pastor Christopher provides foods to widows in the community. And, once per month, he implements a feeding program for children.
